1.15. Distribution of receptors in the basal forebrain

Using subtype specific antisera the cellular distribution of different glutamatergic (Martin et al., 1993; Petralia et al., 1994; Kiss and Zaborszky, in preparation), dopaminergic, muscarinic, GABAergic, etc receptors have been recently described.

1.15.1. Glutamatergic receptors. According to our study a substantial proportion of cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain contain mGluR1a receptor. Based upon the presence of this receptor, the BFC could be devided into a rostral mGluR poor and a caudal mGluR-rich compartment (Fig.1.15.1-1).
