CALL FOR APPLICATION

ALBERT SZENT-GYÖRGYI YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD
The New York Hungarian Scientific Society (nymtt.org), a non-for-profit charitable 501 (c)(3) organization, is accepting applications for the Albert Szent-Györgyi Young Investigator Award supporting original research by Hungarian scientists living in Hungary or in neighboring countries. The Award was estabilished in 2015 and is funded by the generous support of the American-Hungarian scientific community.


ELIGIBILITY: The application is open for graduate students working for their PhD degree or scientists with PhD under the age of 35, in the fields of natural sciences, medical sciences, and mathematics.


AWARD: Total value of the avards: $11,000 USD.
Winner (1): $3,000 USD.
Finalists (2): 2x $1,500 USD
Gizella Solti Award: $5,000 USD, a special award estabilished by Dr. Livia Solti-Bohman.

Eligeble costs and reporting requirements: Awards can be used to support research at the discretion of the awardee. Awardees are required to submit a final report (maximum 1000 words) within a year about activities and achivements of the awardee during this period.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Applicants should submit the following:
• one-page summary of their former research (maximum 300 words),
• short resume with a list of publications (maximum 600 words),
• short (maximum 5 minutes) youtube video explaining why the applicant should receive the award.

The documents and a link to the video should be sent to tudosklub@gmail.com before midnight (Central European Time) December 1, 2017. All submitted documents and video should be in English .

ANNOUNCEMENT: The winner and the finalists will be announced on December 14th , 2017 during the annual fundraising gala, organized at and supported by the Consulate General of Hungary, NY. SAVE the date - December 14th, 2017 Fundraising Dinner and Gala – Hungarian Scientific Society

Dear Friends,


Save December 14th, Thursday, 2017 6:30-10:00 PM in your calendar for the New York Hungarian Scientific Society’s 3rd Annual Fundraising Dinner and Gala. This will be a fantastic dinner event with a cause. We will gather for the third time to learn something new, to socialize and to support the great cause of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Young Investigator Award.


Professor Bruce S. McEwen, Ph.D, Alfred E. Mirksy Professor of The Rockefeller University, member US National Academy of Sciences will give a lecture about the molecular effects of stress and sex hormones on the brain. You will hear from the 2016 awardees of the Szent-Gyorgyi Albert Young Investigator Award about their recent achievements and the 2017 awardees, including the winner of the special, Gizella Solti Award will be announced. Three-course dinner of Hungarian delicacies will be accompanied by a range of selected Hungarian wines.


The evening is hosted by H.E. Ferenc Kumin, Consul General of Hungary.


Suggested donation: 100 USD/seat. All donations contribute to the Award. Please, register and RSVP by December 7th.
